TWO RESIGNATIONS
BOROUGH INSPECTORS BUILDING AND HEALTH ’QUAKE WORK RECALLED The resignations of two of the inspectors on the staff of the Gisborne Borough Council were received by the council at last night’s meeting. The building, -plumbing, drainage and waterworks inspector, Mr. L. W. Patterson, resigned after being for nearly nine years with the council, in order to take over a position in Wairoa, and the sanitary inspector, Mr. J. Lawther, is leaving to take up a situation in Auckland. Mr. Patterson has been in Gisborne for the -past 22 years. He came from New Plymouth to join the staff of Mr. J. S. Allan’s plumbing business, now Messrs. J. S. Allan and Son, Limited, and in 1930 he succeeded the late Mr. W. W. Stewart as building, plumbing, drainage and waterworks inspector. Mr. Patterson had been only a few '■srmfihs -ill his new position when the series of disastrous earthquakes gave him a very arduous period of work thp re" 1 cuing of many buildings in Gisborne, Back to Old Firm Mr. Patterson is leaving the council’s employ to return to his old firm, Messrs. J. S. Allan and Son, Limited, as manager of its new Wairoa branch, and when the council accepted his resignation with regret it granted his request to be relieved of bis duties by July 21, in view of his annual leave being due. For the past 14 years Mr. Patterson has been instructor in sanitary engineering at the Technical School, and many pupils who reached a high point in the profession passed through his hands. In his spare time, instrumental music attracted his attention, and he was a member of orchestras attached to the Savage Club, the Cosmopolitan Club and the Amateur Operatic Society for a number of years. He was one of the foundation members of the Cosmopolitan Club orchestra, which was formed six years ago. His s-on, (Mr. H. Patterson, will accompany Mr. and Mrs. Patterson to Wairoa. Mr. Lawther’s New Post Mr. Lawther has been the council’s sanitary inspector for the -past 12 months, and 'has accepted a position with the Auckland City Council. This resignation, also, was accepted with regret, the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., stating that the council was very sorry t.~ lose Mr. Lawtlm.
