COUNTY CRICKET GAMES AMES IN GOOD FORM YORKS BEATEN AGAIN MATCH RESULTS IN TIE (Elec, Tei. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 12, Noon.) LONDON, July 11. The county cricket round which was completed to-day did not produce many sensations but it was not by any means Ricking in interest. Yorkshire again had to submit to defeat on the first innings, this time at the hands of Middlesex.
Gloucester, on the other hand, continued their winning streak, their first innings score being only seven short of the two innings aggregate of Essex. Hammond was at his best to score 207.
Although Surrey made a good recovery in their second innings, Kent had a comfortable victory. Ames made 72 in Kent’s first innings and in the second was unbeaten with 130 to his credit.- In Surrey’s second, Fishlock made 120 and Whitfield 109
There was an unusual ending to the game between Worcester and Somerset. Somerset had a lead of one run on the first innings, and needed 142 in the second to secure a win, but the last wicket fell while they were still one run short and the match ended in a tie. Bowling for Somerset, Wellard took seven wickets for 45 runs while Hazell, in the second innings, took five for six. Matches commenced on Saturday resulted as follows: Seven Wickets In Hand
Surrey in the first innings made 18(1, but in the second put on 3(10 for seven and declared (Fishlock 120, Whitfield 109). Kent in the first made 316 (Antes 72), and in the second lost three for 234 (Ames not out 136). Kent won by seven wickets. Gloucester's first innings produced 432 (Hammond 207). In the second they lost seven for 241 and declared (Nichols six for 33). Essex in the first made 300 (Vigar 121) and in the second 136 (Scott five for 57). Gloucester won by 234 runs.
Glamorgan in the first innings put on 336 for eight and declared (E. Davies 102), and in the second lost three for 83. Sussex in the first made 262 (James Langridge 77). Glamorgan won on the first innings.
Northants in the first innings scored 146 (Hill six for 45, and in the second 157 (Bailey four for 49, Boyes four for 31. Hampshire in the first made 159 (Merrill five for 56). and in the second lost two for 135. Hampshire won by eight wickets. Five For Twenty-Eight Leicester in the first innings were all out for 86 (Wllmot four for 21, Hollies five for 24). In the second they made 121. Warwick in the first made 111 (Smith five for 28), and in the second lost four for 100. Warwick won by six wickets. Notts in the firs.t innings compiled 313 (Hard-staff 81; Knowles 88; Mitchell five for 70). Derby in the first made 210 (Butler four for 41), and followed on to lose three for 125. Notts won on the first innings.
Worcester in the first innings made 130 (Wellard seven for 45), and in the second 142 (Hazell five for 6>. Somerset in the first made 131 (Perks four for 40), and in the second 141 (Howorth four for 27). The match resulted in a tie. Yorkshire in the first innings made 171 (Hutton 72; Smith five for 48). In the second they lost five for 172. Middlesex in the first made 292 and won on the first innings.
