SHARP REBUKE GIVEN
CANBERRA CENSURE CRITICISM BY GERMAN (Reed. July 12, 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, July 12. A sharp rebuke from Sir Henry Gullett, the Minister of External Affairs followed the statement reported yesterday tc have been made following a visit to Germany by Herr W.
Biasing, the secretary of the German Consulate in Melbourne, who has returned that “in respect to Danzig, England is putting her finger in a pie which does not concern her.” Sir Henry summoned the acting German Consul, Dr. Seger, to his office, and told him that it was quite beyond the function of any consular service in Australia to engage in propaganda against the United Kingdom. Such a course could only lead to difficulties.
Sir Henry said that he completely subscribed to Britain’s peace policy and peace had not been broken between the United Kingdom and Germany. He added that the Commonwealth Government desired that the relationship between Australia and Germany should continue upon the most (friendly basis.
