ACTIVITIES IN DANZIG ATTACKS NOT DETERRED SPEECH BY CHAMBERLAIN BERLIN -ROME HOSTILITY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 12, TO a.m.) LONDON, July 11. The declaration made in the House of Commons yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, emphasising, in his review of the Danzig question, Britain’s resolute intention to carry out the guarantee given to Poland, did not deter the Danzig Nazis from making attacks against Poles.
It is reported that a dozen Polish workers were arrested after leaving Schiehau and will work in concentration camps in Germany.
The Nazis are concentrating on excluding Poles from, all Danzig activities for fear of what they r know and what they might, retail in future in regard to the preparations.
Munitions are still being shipped to the Free City through Schiehau. Seven trawlers, carrying mine-laying equipment, arrived at Danzig last evening.
A Warsaw message quotes the semiofficial Gazetla Polska, which, in referring to Mr. Chamberlain's speech, features the statement that Britain’s unchanged and decisive attitude emphasises that she is faithful to her pledges.
Messages from Berlin give indications of further German press opinions' ol' Mr. Chamberlain’s speech. "Nothing surprising and nothing new,” sums up the opinion of the Volkischer Beobachtcr, which adds: "The utterances were misplaced because they completely ignored tire
right of Danzig citizens to selfdetermination. A solution will not be decided from the platform of the House of Commons.”
Mr. Chamberlain's speech was received unfavourably in Rome, though it is regarded as milder and even prudent in tone.
The Messagcro says: “The sword which was waved threateningly at London amid the deafening racket of warlike chatter woven round the supposedly imminent Danzig tragedy hasbeen. prudently resheathed.”
