NORWEGIAN CLAIMS
ANTARCTIC COAST U.S. WHALERS ALARMED (Reed. July 12, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 11. The State Department has been informed that King Haakon of Norway has proclaimed Norwegian sovereignty over the mainland of the Antarctic coast from the Falkland Island dependencies to the Australian dependencies, 45 degrees east longitude. United States whalers are alarmed and have asked the department to define the American rights in the Antarctic.
