“TYPICAL VAGRANT”
IDLE AND DISORDERLY 2 MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT Described as a "typical vagrant" when lie apneared 'before Mr. E. L. Walton. S.M., in the Police Court this morning, Basil Charles Morgan, aged 25, was sentenced to a short term ol iimprisonment ou. a charge of 'being an idle and disorderly person in that lie had insufficient means of support. Senior-Sergeant J. F. H. Maciramara said that the accused had been arrested by Constable Greggan in Te Karaka on July 5. 'Morgan had no money and was existing by begging and sheltering in houses. On June 26 a swag and a bicycle, the latter having been stolen, were found by the police at Tarulieru. Morgan admitting that the swag was his and that he had stolen the bicycle. The police had received a complaint during the same month that a woman resident of Matawhero bad seen a man : n a bedroom of her house, but the man had run away. Later in the month a man had 'been seen in a bedroom in a house in Palmerston road, but had run away when a woman came into the room. Morgan had admitted that 'lie was the man who had 'been in the room and also admitted that he was the man about whom complaints of frightening women had 'been received. “The accused is a sub-normal type and, on this account, we are pressing only the first charge,” said the seniorsergeant. Morgan was 25 years of age and apparently did not like work, contenting himself with wandering from place to place. He had 11 previous convictions and was a typical vagrant. Morgan was convicted and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
