B GRADE SURPRISES
H. 5.0.8. BEAT Y.M.C.A. a.s.on 1 goal Y.M.C.A (i H. 5.0.8. sprang a surprise on Y.M.C.A. on Saturday, winning by one goal to nil. The H. 5.0.8. form during the past few weeks has shown an improvement, particularly in defensive work, members of the team becoming more used to each other’s (play. The defence was again particularly sound. At half-time there was no score, the only goal of the game coming towards the close, Fredericks putting the finishing touches to the scoring movement.
MURIWAFS CLOSE CALL Mui'iwai . . 3 goals High School A 2 Muriwai, the leading team in the men’s B grade, had a close call against High School A, and the winning goal was not scored until the last few minutes.
High School secured an early lead of 2 goals to nil, this being reduced at half-time to two to one. During the second half, Muriwai secured two more goals, both of which came from penalty bullies.
The High School team played with excellent combination, and battled gamely against much heavier opponents, whose tactics to put the boys off-side somewhat interfered with the school’s play.
