BLEAK CONDITIONS TRULY KING BENEFIT WEEK-END RESULTS The bleak weather conditions over the week-end did not detract from the keenness of golfers in Gisborne and good fields took part in competitive play. POVERTY BAY CLUB The second qualifying round of -the club championship was played by members of the Poverty Bay club, scores being as follows; E. S. Toogood, 77- P Turein. W. D. Barker. 79; R. I. Harrison. 80; C. 11. Wells, 81; H. D. Chrisp. W. D. Andrews, 82; D. B. Barry. G. H. Stewart, 83; F. Fenwick, M. R. Maude, J. T. Dodgshun, 84; G. M. Dodgshun, P. R. Willock. 85: N. H. Bull, M. W. Howe, W. H. Hope, 86; C. O. Hansen, R. Thompson, 87; G. Gregory. J. ißarns-Graham, 88. In the Burke Cup series, for the best gross score in the qualifying rounds, E. S. Toogood, with a score of 151. has a good lead over the rest of the field, the nearest player being D. B. Barry with 153. R. I. Harrison has a score of 159 and is closely followed by W. K. Andrews. 160, and W. D. Barker. 161. Fourball Best Ball Bogey Match A 36 hole fourball -best -ball bogey match was played during the weekend, trophies '-being donated by Messrs. G. W. Willock and Ik W. Barker. Fifty-five-pairs took part in this match and the entry fees, totalling £5 11s, were donated to the Truby King memorial fund. E. Jenkinson and R. W. J. Edwards, with a card of 12 up. were the winners, oLi-er good cards being as follows; B. Burke and R. Young. 11 up; L. Duncombe and I. N. Hamilton. 9 up: W. R. B. Willock and C. H. Wells, 8 up; E. R. Beckett and T. J. Corkery, 7 up; D. B. Barry and W. D. Barker, 5 up.
The best morning round was played by Burke and Young, with a card of 8 up. TURANGANUICLUB The following -are the results in the first round of the William T. Men’s Handicap Tourney The matches -played in the first round of the men’s handicap tournament resulted: W. Anderson beat W. Carroll; N. G. -Anderson -boat Rua Clarke; J. McMurray beat' D. Ross; R. Gordon -beat W. -McMurray; J. McConnell beat T. Moore; T. Muir won by default; L. A. Haggle won by default. Medal Handicap A meclal handicap played in conjunction with the above resulted in : comfortable -win for -R. Gordon (24) with a net score of 60, followed -by W. McMurray (24) with ;> net 66. As a result of these rounds 'the above players have received attention tc heir handicaps. Other cards handed in were: -N. G. Anderson (22), net 73: W. Anderson (22), 73; J. McConnell (26), 77. The Stableford fourball competition played on the Gisborne Park links on Saturday afternoon resulted in a win for A. S. Fearnley and L. Albrecht with a combined total of 63 points. Other cards were: R. T. Porter and L. L. Winter, 56 points; F. Dobbie and p . M. Warner. 54 points; E. T. Broadhurst and R. Clayton, 53 points; J. McMillan and- P. Robertson, 50 points. Dryland Cup A. D. Tan' and F. McDonald withstood their fourth consecutive challenge for the Dryland Cup, defeating J. Slipper and V. Venables 4 and 3. I’.B.
