The British open golf championship was won by Burton, with an aggregate of 290, Ibis rounds being 71), 72, 77. and 71. A crowd of 10.000 stampeded on to lire course when Burton, was presented with the trophy. lie declared: "This is one of my fife’s ambitions. 1 thank file competitors for allowing me to win.” 'Pile weather was bad. with a strong wind to gale force and heavy rain this morning. Burton went out in 35 on the final round. He knew that he needed 37 coming home to beat Bulla, and played very steadily. Burton got a three at the last hole.
