VESSEL STILL AGROUND
JAPANESE STEAMER FIRST AUSTRALIAN TRIP (TVr Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Cabled advice was received yesterday by Russell and Somers Limited, the Auckland agents for the Yatnashita Steamship Company, that the company’s steamer China Maru is still aground in the Feni group, cast, of New Ireland and about 130 miles from Rabaul and that the steamer Yamasimo Maru had attempted to refloat her without result. No cargo has been damaged. A large quantity, of the consignment is for New Zealand. The China Maru, of 5870 tons grogs, went asho*c early last week when making her first trip from Japan to Australia. It was reported that the No. 1 fore,peak was badly damaged and that the vessel was taking in waiter .in her No. 2 ballast tank. The position of the .steamer has been regarded as serious. The steamer Mako, formerly owned by the Richardson Company in the Auckland-East Coast service, went from Rabaul to the .ship last week with a diver and salvage tackle, but apparently was not able to assist. The Yamas’imo Maru was on a voyage from Brisbane to Japan.
