The Japanese-controlled Chinese Government has despatched to the British and. French Embassies a list of demands forming the basis for a settlement at Tientsin and states that the Japanese army in North China supports the demands. They include: (1) That the British and French Concessions support the new Japanesebacked Chinese currency. (2) That the Pekin Government be allowed to inspect banks and business houses in the concessions.

(3) That rigorous control be exercised of publications and organisations contrary to the policy" of the Pekin Government. (4) Joint British, French and Pekin Government control in the concessions.

The Japanese spokesman declared that if no compromise were reached in connection with the demands, force might be used to attain the objectives.
