Answering a mutiny SOS call from the captain of a steamer off the coast of Palestine, the British destroyer Ivanhoe raced from Haifa to the ship, which was put under arrest and escorted to Haifa.

It is believed that the captain wished to land 350 Jewish refugees, but the crew refused to obey orders, fearing arrest and imprisonment.

Able .Seaman Carr, a member of the Ivanhoe’s boarding party, was shot dead 'when he accidentally pulled the trigger of his revolver while helping a sick woman aboard the destroyer.
