POTATO PRICES

HOUSEWIVES COMPLAIN Dissatisfaction that is being felt by Auckland housewives at the present high price of patotocs, has given rise lo a suggestion that there should be an increase in the home-growing of potatoes and other vegetables, which has shown a decline in recent years.

The wholesale price of potatoes in Auckland ranges up to £l6 a ton, or more than twice as much as at this time last year, and the retail price is now 51b. for If-. High prices are attributable, at least partly, to the poor crop in the South Island, which is at present supplying the Auckland market.
