PIG CLUB LITTERS

GOOD HICKS BAY WEIGHTS ALL MAORI GROUP LAST OF THE SEASON The last of the litter weighings for the present season from pig clubs in the Tairawhiti Pig Council’s district have been made - available toy the recording officers, Messrs. F. R. Bould and T. French, of the Department of Agriculture. Several other pig club sows are well forward, and a number of litters for the now season are expected next month. One of the best litters of the last few months was from an all-Maori pig club in 'Mr. 'French’s area. The Hicks Bay club, for which Mr. Wi White is the custodian, has a Berkshire sow, and from a litter of nine one died, leaving seven males and one female. The weight at three weeks was 1221 b., or an average of 15.251 b. per pig, and when weighed at eight weeks and one day the total was 3311 b., an average "of 44 371 b. The individual weights were:—Males, 531 b„ 471 b., 471 b„ 441 b„ 431 b., 371 b., 291 b.; female, 311 b. 'Toe pigs were in exceptionally good condition.

Two litters in the Gisborne district were hardly so good, top-weights at eight weeks suffering in comparison with those at three weeks. Poverty Ray Clubs The Whatatutu Pig Club, for which the custodian is Mr. W. Alexander, has a Tamworth sow with a litter of six. At three weeks tile litter weighed 731 b., an average of 12.171 b., and at eight weeks the weight was 1981 b., an average of 33Lb. The sexes were evenly divided in the litter, their individual weights being: Male, 271 b., 351 b., 351 b.; female, 361 b., 421 b., 231 b. The Manutuke Pig Club's second sow, a Berkshire, produced a litter of eight. The custodian is Mr. A. Jones. The first weighing at three weeks returned a total .of 1131 b., the average being 14.251 b., the second at eight weeks totalling 2161 bi, an average of 271 b. Again the sexes were evenly divided, and the individual weights were:—Male, 241 b., 271 b.. 271 b., 291 b.: female, 321 b„ 2Glb„ 291 b., 221 b.
