COAST RAINFALL
RETURNS FOR JUNE I (BIN. AT EAKIHIIiOA June proved one of the wettest months of the year to date on the East Coast and one tally was as high as lOiin. No less than 3.B!)in. of rain fell in 24 hours at PaklJiirou station, near Ml. I-likuranigi, that reading being taken on June 7. The station records show a total of 10.52 in. of rain for the l(i wet days last month, compared with 8.95 in. for 15 rain days in June, 1938. Since January 1 there has been a total of 31.59 in. of rain at Pakihiroa, as against 78.42i.n. for the corresponding period last year.
At Wairoro station, Tikitiki, the June total was 7.69i.n. Rain fell on 11 days and the .heaviest fall was 2.07 in. on June 7. The total for the first six months of the year was 31.47 in., compared with Gl.OSin. for the 1938 period.
The rainfall at Ruangarehu station, inland from Tokornaru Bay, last month totalled 4.67 in, for 18 rain days, compared with 5.31 in. for 17 wet days in June, 1938. The heaviest day’s rain occurred on June 29, when ,89in. was recorded for the 24-hour period, For the six months ended June 30 Ruangarehu has gauged 25.5 in., as against a tally of GS.SGin. for the first half of 1938.
