Compulsory Unionism
Whether compulsory unionism for farmers was practicable or advisable was discussed at some length at a meeting of the Wanganui provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union. “How can you make a farmer join the Farmers’ Union?” asked Mr. A. S. Ashmore. “I cannot see how you can possibly make it compulsory for farmers to join up,” he added. The meeting decideu against the principle of compulsion, but expressed approval of the raising of the subscription fee to 255.
