LOWER GRADE RESULTS

OLD BOYS B LUCKY FINK FORWARD GAME Oljic :!pts. Old Boys B .. 3 Old Beys B were very lucky lo share the honours with Celtic m a hard-fought junior game on No. 1 ground on the Oval on Saturday, the match being a fine exhibition of forward play, with the Colts'the dominating force. Each team scored from a penalty goal, H. Sobire goaling for Old Boys and McMillan for Celtic. Old Boys were awarded their penally when the majority of the spectators were of the opinion that the ruling should have been in favour of the Celts, as an Old Boys' player seemed yards offside when the penalty was given. Celtic were the more aggressive team and deserved a victory, but the game, nevertheless, was an indication of the strength of the forward play in the junior grades. The referee was Mr. L, Stichbury. MARIST IN THE LEAD VICTORY. OVER H. 5.0.8. Marist 9pts, H.S.O.E 3 By reason of their six-point win over H. 5.0.8., Marist went into a two-point lead in the junior competition, the blues being two points ahead in the points series, with Old Boys B second. Saturday's game was a hard-fought one throughout, with Marist doing the better work at the finish. The forwards were evenly matched, but the Marist backs were a shade too good. For Marist, Brian Quinn scored two tries 'and Friar one, while for H. 5.0.8. McGregor kicked a penalty goal. The referee was Mr. W. McKeague. ROVERS DOWN AGAIN NEWMAN IN FORM Old Boys A . Opts. Rovers 4 Old Boys A, thanks almost entirely to their backs, had a nine-point win over Rovers in a junior match, the whites taking the honours by 13 points to 4. The Old Boys’ forwards all tried to be half-backs and had a mania for trying to pick the ball up in the rucks. The game was a hard, bustling one. Tries for the winners were scored by Newman (2) and Morrow, Calcolt converting two. Olsen kicked a neat field-goal for Rovers. Mr. H. Hunter was the referee.
