STATE COLLIERY SPORTS.
tOur Own Correspondent^
A meeting of the State Colliery Sports Committee was held last night in the library, when Mr J. Southward occupied the chair. After the usual routine business, the protest against Mr Ilartigan in the maiden race was deal with, and as nothing Jiail been proved against him it was resolved that the prize be forwarded to him.
The secretary reported having wrote to the Drapers' Association in regard to a donation for sports but so far had received no reply. Some of the committee spoke very strongly in regard to this sort of treatment. The workers at the State Colliery helped to support these men in the same manner as they do the other business people in town. Yet we find that these men are the only people who do not give a little supporf. It is only to be hoped that in the near future the sports will be able to be carried on without asking for anv such support. Tho secretary read over a rough balance sheet which showed that considering the bad weather the sports will be able to clear expenses. It. was resolved that the band receive a donation of £] 10s for their services they having given thorn free on both da vs.
Mr Piddle gave a lengthy report of the delegate meeting in connection with the West Const Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union which was received as satisfactory.
