A Fatal Accident.
Auckland, Jan. 80. This afternoon a fatal accident happened in some drainage works in Upper Queen-street, whereby a workman named Baskerville lost his life. Baskerville was working with some other men in an excavation which was fairjy deep: One side caved in and buried the unfortunate man to the neck, pinning him ..against the opposite wall. It was seen at once that Baskerville was seriously injured, and prompt measures were taken to get him out. When this was done, however, it was seen that his injuries were very serious. Medical skill was of no avail, and the unfortunate man must have died shortly after the fall of earth. Baskerville was a married man with a large family. Estate Acquired. Wellington, Jan. 30. Tho Motoua estate of nine thousand acres, near Foxton, has been purchased from tho Assets and Bealisation Board by Messrs Stevens, Austen and Easton.
