The cricket match Lord Hawke’s team v the Nelson 18 was commenced at 11 o’clock on a heavy wicket after the rain. The weather was fine. Nelson sent the Englishmen in first, and the two first wickets fell for 4. Whatman and Taylor made a stand, however, and the innings closed for 185—Whatman 56, Taylor 51, Johnston 22, Thompson 10, Warner 22, making double figures, and the extras totalled 10.

The Nelson first innings was commenced at 3 20, but the bowling of Thompson and Hargreaves, the two professionals, was altogether too good for the local men, who made a procession to and from the wickets—Duncan 8 being top scorer. Broad was stumped by Taylor for 4, Kinzett also making 4, while 8 failed to score. The total for the first innings was 28.

In the second innings Nelson having to follow on, has lost 3 wickets for 32, Duncan (not out) 12 being the highest scorer. New South Wales y Victoria.

Sydney, Jan 27 N. 3. Walts in their first innings made 307. The wicket was sodden. Trumper failed to increase his over night score of 130, Duff carried his score to 131. Gregory 37 was the only other to make a stand. Collins took five wickets for 85, Laver 3 for 12, Saunders 2 for 93. Victoria in the second innings lost 2 wickets for 85—Bruce 48, M’Alistor (not out) 34.
