Wellington, Jan. 27. The hearing of the petition to upset the Newtown Local Option Poll which resulted in cirrjing prohibition began before Dr. McArthur S. M. today. At the outset Bkarrctt for the petitioners objected to the appearanceo£ Bell and Atkinson in opposition, on the ground that there was no statutory party to the position, Ho, had no objection to one solicitor appearing as amicus curiae.

The Magistrate without ruling on the point admitted both opposing counsel as friends of the couri and said he would allow them every latitude in the proceed ings.

Skcrrett then opened the case for the petitioners.
