Costs allowed to objector. H. J. Wiokes. Residence site near Cemetery. Objected to by the Borough Council. Mr Guinness appeared for the applicant and Mr Doogan for the objecting Borough. Mr Doogan said that the land was adjacent to the site chosen for the abattoirs and would be required in connection therewith and he wou'd aek the Warden to refuse the application on the ground that it was required for public purposes. Mr Guinness held that the Warden
must grant the application, as he could not refuse the application when it did not interfere with mining operation. E. I. Lord, Town Clerk, I stated that the Council had decided to erect abattoirs on Municipal Beserve 58. The sections applied for were between the railway station at Earoro and the abattoirs site. A siding from Earora to the abattoir will be required, and must pass through at least one section. If the application is granted, the Borough would have to buy the land. In 1891 when the reserve was laid out, he thought the sections were Crown lands granted as freeholds. Can only find Crown grants for three sections. By Mr Guinness—The railway siding has only been talked over. TJio ground is principally warned for paddocks. Half of reserve is let to Li Ming on a seven years' lease. The building is immediately behind the railway station. The whole os the area of Beserve 51 (60 acres) is available for paddocks The ground applied for is old worked out mining ground. By M. Doogan—Did not thiok it would be necessary to acquire Eraher's land as it was on the terrace.
His Worship refused the application and decided to recommend the Governor to temporarily reserve the section in question. D. H. Bobertp. Besidence site. Near cemeterv. Adjourned. J. T." Waite. Coal leases. Wall's Creek. Adjourned for the report of Mr Tennant, Inspector of Mines.
