KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(ODE OWN COEHESPOKDBNT.) The usual meeting was held last night. Present:—H : s Worship the Mayor Mr T Jones, Messrs Benyon, McGlone, Murdoch, Evcnden, Marks, Eggleton and Jorgenson, Gr. Murdoch made the usual declares tic n and took his seat. Before commencing the business Cr. Jcrgenson welcomed the new member congratulating the council on his acquisition as a member. Crs. Eggleton, Evenden Marks and His Worship welcomed Mr Murdoch to the Council table. Mr Murdoch replied thanking the members for the welcome accorded him. He would endeavour to do his duty to the burgesses. From P. Fitzgerald asking permission to fence in Fourth Street. Cr Eggleton proposed that permission be granted. Cr Benyon seconded. Crs Everden and McGlone supported: Crs Marks and Murdoch opposed. The motion on being put was carried. Crs Murdoch and Marks dissenting. Or Olden here took his seat.
From Mr Kirk, secretary High School Commissioners in regard to appointments of a member to represent the Borough. Resolved that Mr Tait be re-appointed. From the Chief Inspector of Factories re weekly half holiday. Resolved that Wednesday afternoon be kept within the the Borough for the ensuing twelve months. The Finance Committee recommended the sum of £77 los 3d be passed for payment. Received and adopted. Recommending that the Valuer-Genera I be ashed to make a revaluation of the property in the borough. Or Eggleton proposed that the recommendation bo adopted. Cr Jorgenson asked could not the Borough make the valuation. He thought they should do it. Cr Murdoch said be thought the matter could be held over for soma time. He iatended to move a motion at a future, time in the direction of revaluation oii the basis of unimproved values. Cr Jorgensen said it woold take months before the matter of revaluation on the basis of unimproved values could take place and the Council would lose a year’s rates. The motion on being put was carried, Mr Murdoch dissenting, considering it u waste of Borough funds. Cr Benyon, Chairman of the Public Works reported on several small works. Cr Jorgensen thought the day labour man should spend tome time in doing necessary works at the cemetery. The Town Clerk reported on the conference in regard to the Teremakax bridge. Cr McGlone spoke in appreciation of ths way in which communication re opened for foot passengers. Or Btnyon by leave moved that the Council ask ihe. Chairman of the Westland Council to have a wire rope erected to enable coal and general goods to be taken across the Teremakau bridge. Cr Jorgensen seconded pro forma. He thought that the Borough should take no action as
Cr Evenden thought that coal could be carried over the bridge.
