The Customs Difficulties,
Sydhby, December 27.
The following modus vivendi bas been arranged between' the Commonwealth and the mail companies pending the decision of the Privy Council in -the Oceana case:—The duty not to be enforced in each port while the ship is there as it is difficult to ascertain the amount, but as soon as possible the purser is to make a statement of the stores consumed at each port and while travelling between forts of the duty immediately to be paid. ayment must be absolute, leaving the companies to their legal remedy. Every facility will be given, but the Commonwealth does not depart from its rights.
The English, French and German companies have signed an agreement terminable at a month's notice..
The prosecutions which were fixed for Monday will therefore be suspended during the currency of the agreement,
