MAJOR MADOCK’S NEW APPOINTMENT.
Major Madocks (formerly staff officer to the New Zealand Commandant) who so distinguished himself with the New Zealanders in South Africa last year, has not been allowed to remain idle very long. He had a delightful trip Home from New Zealand, via America, where he remained several weeks, and he has been in England only ten days. Immediately on his arrival, although his leave still had two months to run, he volunteered at the War Office for active service, and bis turn has come at once. General Dm Hamilton has resigned the position of Military Secretary at the War Office, and is going to South Africa to serve as Chief of Lord Kitchener’s Staff, and will take his departure on Saturday, He has offered Major Madocks a position on the Headquarters Army Staff, which the latter has gladly accepted ; so he will accompany Sir lan as Deputy-Assistant-Adjutant-General, All Major Maddoek’s friends in the colony—and they are many—will be delighted to hear of his good fortune.
