GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of the Jockey Club committee was hold at the Albion Hotel on Saturday evening for the purpose of electing new members of the Club. Present : Messrs Hannan (chair), Mr Petrie being unavoidably late, Walton, Claughesy, Ponsonby, Bignell, Gieseking, and McCarthy.
Messrs J. H. Henry and R. Mitchell wore unanimously elected members. The racing programme of the Kumara club for Easter Monday and Tuesday was read and approved of.
The Nelson programme for 9th and 10th April was road and approved of.
Thomas Bird, Henry Brandt, Alev Jas Smith, John Johnston, James M'Grath, T. H. Burns were granted jockey's licenses.
John Sullivan and 'William Powell were granted trainers’ licenses. John M’Donald was granted an apprentice's license. John Byrne, Takaka, nominated as a gentleman rider. Application was granted.
The Nelson Trotting Club applied to have two galloping races inroduced into theit programme. The club regretted that they had no power to grant the permit, and referred them to Sir G. Cliffrrd’s telegram on the matter. W. H. Fergus applied to have his disqualification removed. After a good deal of discussion and on a division the disqualification was removed. Applicant was then granted a trainer’s license. The secretary was instructed to give general intimation by circular that applications for jockey’s and trainer’s licenses should be sent in at the proper time, and not just on the eve of race meeting.
