Greymouth y. Hokitika.
When the Grey team left the station on Saturday morning to try conclusions with Hokitika, it looked doubtful if the cricketers would meet with much sympathy from the threatening clouds, but on arriving at Hokitika the sun favoured the energy of the visitors. At eleven o’clock the coin gave Hokitika the chance and they selected to bat, Harrop and Campbell wielding the willows, Whitehouse opening the bowling, for the visitors and with the first ball, Campbell gave a chance in the slips which was accepted. Play was slow for some time, runs coming for the most part singly. Williams played a very steady game for 33 not ont, and tired the bowlers somewhat. After two hours play, on adjourning for lunch, Hokitika had 53 runs for six wickets. The innings closed for 61. For Greymouth Adams and Smith played a careful game and turned the tide in favor of the visitors. Currie and Morris doing most of the bowling.
