[per press association—copyright.]

London, Dec 21, Japanese officers have been engaged to train Chinese soldiers. Japan offered to send a General to organise the Army. Yesterday the Chinese officials at Tongchao made atonement for the massacre of missionaries and converts there in August last year. They attended the funeral of 70 victims and signed a promise to protect the converts. Fifty villages were represented at the ceremony. Lieut Hall, with a handful of the Punjaub Infantry, pursued the surrounding brigands to a house outside ChuntiangChung and killed ten and captured four.

The Franco-Chinese loan was covered 24. fold.
