Pctitionss are in circAuion at the instance of Mr Ell, one of the members for Christchurch, calling on the Mayor to take the necessary steps to call a vote of the ratepayers within the city to be taken with a view to adopting by Dunedin of Rating on Unimproved Values Act 1896. The Eighth Contingent. Captain Jackson, (in command of the Fifth Contingent) and Lieutenant McMillan, (Dunedin Cycling Corps, and senior Lieutenant of the Fifth) are among the local officers who have volunteered for service with the Eight Contingent.
