RAILWAY ACCIDENT INQUEST.

The inquest on Prank Thomas, the platelayei-, killed in the collision of a railway tricycle and the train, was advanced a stage to-day. Doctor Rogers, who attended Fraser, said that he detected no sign of drink on him or deceased. Lawrence Fraser's evidence was taken at the hospital. He said that he was a ganger and got notice of a special train having left Woodlands to inspect vhe line. At 9 p.m. he went south to Longbush. Coming back he picked up Thomas and went north to Morton Mains, which was reached at 10 5. He then set out to return to Woodlands, travelling at the rate of 5 or 6 miles an hour Witness had a red lamp in his left hand and kept a sharp look-out, and soon after turning he thought hs saw a iight at Fourteen Curve or about two miles away. Thomas looked and said he saw nothing, and that witness must be mistaken. Witness said if it was a train he would see it as he came into the straight on which they were running, but saw no light whatever. The engine seemed to rise up in front of them and he could see no light on it. This was after travelling about a quarter of a mile after he supposed he had seen the train Jight. The inquest will bo resumed tomorrow.
