(pi!H FBBSS ASSOCIATION.) The Cayersham Seat. Dunbdin, Dec 9. W. H. Warren, one of the candidates for Caversham seat addressed the electors to night, and despite bad weather had a full meeting. He practically declared himself independant and would support the 3overnmentonly when it was in the interest of the colony to do so. He is a supporter of technical education. No vote was asked for or passed. Municipal Improvements. Chmstchobch, Dec 9. The City Council passed a motion that in its opinion the time has come when steps should be taken to acquire land from the Bank of New Zealand to widen Cjlunbo street corner, owing to the route of traffic at this spot. There is a feeling some people that the scheme to obtain power for pjectrlc lighting and traction from the
Waimakariri river should be discarded in favour of one dealing with steam; many citizens being somewhat discouraged at the fact that the Waimakariri scheme has been up for at least a year. The City Council has derided to obtain information in regard to establishing an electrical plant in connection with the destructor now ill course of construction. It is s.ated that if this idea is carried out there will be sufficient power to light the whole city and streets and leave something to spare. Cattle Stealing. WKLT.tNotON, This Day. At the Supreme Court, Edward Pollock was convicted for cattle stealing. He was admitted to probation for three years. Poachers Fined ■.

Francis Thompson and Walter Elliot were convicted of taking trout from the river with a pitch fork, and were fined JES and £lO respectively and costs £1 18s each.
Seddon's Position. Christchurch; This Day.
In the course of a speech at Cheviot replying to Meredith's attack on him, the Premier stated that the time would come when they would find he had not imde anything out of his position. It would have been better for him and his family if he had never touched politics;
