Melboitbne, This Day, McCu'longh, the State Minister of Defence, in a letter to the Pro3s rebutting a German newspaper, sneers that Eng land finds the Colonies a broken reed and suggests that the Commonwealth should at once five thousand men to the Imperial Goverment on the same terms as the last contingent. He thinks there would be no difficulty in enrolling and despatching the whole in from four to six weeks. He concludes that everyone is anxious that the wretched guerilla war should be ended quickly and that no time should be lost in offering and despatching the contingent.
