City Tramway Bill. Adelaide, December 8,
A Bill, giving power to a private enterprise to acquire the city tramways, led to a big stonewall. The House sat at two on Friday afternoon, and late last night the second reading was carried by seven votes.
Fire at Kalgoorlie. Perth, December 7
A fire at Kalgoorlic destroyed two hotels and two large business premises. The extent of the damage is unknown.
Electioneering.
Two of Morgan's recently formed Cabinet, namely : —Wilson, Minister of Railways, and Moss, Colonial Secretary, were defeated at the polls. Morgan’s seat is safe, though the figures are not yet complete.
Duty on New Zealand Timber.
Melbourne, December 7,
A deputation of Queensland members urged Mr Barton to reinstate the duty on timber used for butter boxes, urging that suitable timber sufficient for all demands grew in Queensland, Mr Barton promised consideration.
The Attempted Murder in a Lawyer’s Office.
Sydney, December 7. Atkinson is making satisfactory profress with his wounds, which are not angerous. It is supposed that Moore was seized with a sudden domentic caused by financial worries. Tailoresses Strike Ended.
The tailoresses strike has been officially declared off.
