FACTORY WORK ON HOLIDAYS.
(our own correspondent.)
Dunedin, This Day,
At tho Police Court to-day, William Stevenson of Irvine and Stevenson, was charged with allowing a girl to work in their factory on the King’s Birthday. The case arose out of a muddle, tho Mayor proclaiming Monday, and the Statute making Saturday imperative. Stevenson worked his hands on Saturday and gave them Mon Jay. The Stipendiary said it was necessary to establish principle, and therefore fined him one shilling and costs.
