THE AUSTRALIAN LLOYD’S LARGEST STEAMER.

Austria has a fair trade with India, China and Japan, in proof of which it is reported that the steamer Austria, of the Austrian Lloyd line, left Fiume on October 27. A Continental paper says:—This vessel is not only the largest of the Austrian Lloyd’s fleet, but also of the whole of the merchant fleet of the Adriatic, She will carry this vojage, all told, 10.000 tons of freight. At Fiume she loaded part of her interesting cargo—viz., 3.000 tons of railway material, 2,000 tons of sugar, and 1,000 tons of other goods. In the railway material four carriages are included—viz, two first clrss carriages with sleeping accommodation, and two second-class saloons, which were placed on board longitudinally, two forward and two aft. They were built in Hungary for the Egyptian Railway Company. The voyage of the Austria from Fiume to Trieste (100 maritime miles) took eight hours ; therefore with a cargo of 0000 tons on board, the new steamer developed a speed of about fourteen knots an hour, which is considered very satisfattory.
