SHOCKING RAILWAY ACCIDENT

Invercargill, This Day.

A shocking railway accident occurred last night near Morton mains. On the arrival of the special with mails at Edendale, the driver found entangled in the cow catcher the wheel of a railway tricycle. A search resulted in Frank Thomas, an assistant ganger being found dead, and Lawrence Fraser, a ganger, terribly mutilated. His life is despaired of. The accident occurred when the men were inspecting the line in view of the passage of special and ministerial trains. The night was clear, and it is supposed the train came suddenly on tricycle on the crest of a rise.
