Dunedin, This Day,

Mr J. A. Millar, senior member for Dunedin, is to be presented with a handsome gold chronogiaph valued at forty guineas, raised by shilling subscriptions, in recognition of his fight in Parliament against the ’Frisco service and in favor of an all red subsidy. His Excellency and Lady Eanfurly gave their first garden party In Dunedin at Little Bourne to day. It was held in honor of the Queen’s birthday, and some 600 invitations were issued.

At a meeting of the Hospital Trustees this afternoon, Mr T. MacKenzie attempted to introduce the question of management of the Institution which he had raised in Parliament, but was promptly que'chcd by the Chairman, (Mr J. Ujbin), who reminded him that tbe meeting had been specially called to elect Trustees, and refused to allow any other matter to be discussed.

The special tram which conveyed Ji Premier, and the-Hon Ward and others to Orepuki to-day, made the journey from Dunedin ts Invercargill, 139 miles, in a trifle under five hours.

Hall-Jones to Visit Westland. Wellington, Dec 8.

The Minister of Lands will pay his first visit to Westland early flbxt month, and Will complete his inspection of the farming districts in the North Island in March.
