Steamer Kotuku Strikes a Rock. Wellington, This Day. The steamer Kotuku, from Westport to Lyttelton, coal laden, put into port this evening, having met with a mishap off Jackson's Head. It appears that while the steamer was taking the passage between Walker's rock and the beacon off the head she was carried by the strong spring tide bodily on to the rock striking slightly amidships. Her cargo is being discharged here. She will be taken on the slip in the" morning for inspection. The steamer is making water, but almost imperceptibly,

Making Rotorua Attractive

Wellington, November 29.

The Tourist Department intend to establish an aviary in the Government Park at Rotorua. A collection of New Zealand birds, will be formed which it is believed will be of special interest to tourists. The Wellington Fire. Darcy, another of those hurt has developed lung troubles through the shock and his life is thought to be in jeopardy. Dunedin Farmer's Unioa Tho Ocago Executive Farmer's Union meeting was held in the show grounds today, when it was decided to accept the tender of the Commercial Union Assurance Coy for insuring farmers under the Workers Compensation for Accidents and Employers Liability Acts and liability at common law. Reduction on wool Freights. A deputation from the Farmer's Union waited on Sir Joseph Ward, to-day and ! urged that in view of prices, a reduction should be made on the carriage of wool by rail. Sir Joseph, said ho exceedingly regretted the low values on the great staple product, wool. He had had under consideration for some time past, the lowering of rates on wool, among other things. He said so in the House, but there were too many calls being made one way and another on the Treasury, and such large amounts of expenditure were required in all parts of the Colony that it was felt desirable to hold tbi< question over, and the bringing of it into operation. He was quite willing to confer with his colleagues with a view to seeing whether they could single out wool alone and allow other goods to stand over. He was quite prepared to go into tho matter with his colleagues. Fire on the Steamer Weka. Auckland, Nov 30. A fire was discovered on the steamer Weka at Onehunga. The fire brigade quickly suppressed it. The interior of the steamer was gutted, and a large cargo of general merchandise seriousiy damaged. The fire is supposed to have originated in the bunkers.

Post and Telegraph Newspaper. Wellington, This Diy. The Po3t and Telegraph Conference has decided to establish an official newspaper, and a committee has "been appointed to carry out the idea either by acquiring "Katipo," or in some other way. The exectivo of Association is to remain stationed in W ellington.
