GREY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The regular meeting of the above Council was held Ust night. Present: Mavor, Crs MoLean, Thomas, Joyce, Fame, Bigf-H. Tne following appointments weremude : Charatibb Aid Board—The Mayor, Crs Petrie, Joyce, Ashton, and McLean. Hospital Trustees Crs Petrio and Sheedy. Benevolent Society—The Mayor and' Cr Thomas.
From the Women's Christian Temperance Union asking that the Council take steps to stop cx r ectorating on the streets. Besolved oa motion of Mr Thomas that letter b > referred to a committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs Petrie and the mover to ravise the by-laws; also letter from Harbor Board relative to fast driving on Cobden bridge. From Anderson, Chrhtchurch, relative to stone roller. Referred to Works Committee to report upon. From Mr O'Donnell relative to filling in his section. The Town Olerk said Mr O'Donnell had been well treated. On motion of Mr Petrie it wa3 resolved to refer application to Works Committee to report at next meeting.
Application by Di Ming for renewal of lease, was referred to Works Committee to report upon.
From Department of Agriculture asking Oounoil to cancel all engagements for inspectors of slaughter-houses, as Departm mt was taking the matter over. Cr Petrie was not prepared to agree to anyhiDg of the kind until it was shown thas the Government Inspector was prepared to duly attend, and in■pect every animal that was killed. They at present had a good man, and so far as he was concernad the Council would act in the best interests of the people by keeping him there. He moved that the Government be asked if they were prepared to have an inspector in daily attendance
Cr. Mr Lean seconded the resolution. The Mayor held a like opinion to the mover.
Resolution aarried. The Fire Brigade committee reported as follows:—TEe following materials are urgently required:—Six leather buckets, 1 set rubber disks, set fire bars, 500 ft of hose. We recommend that the stand pipe at Mr Moss's new premises be removed as it obstructs the right-of-way, provided it if found that the.other two are sufficient for requirements. B«port adopted. Cr Sheedy thought that the council should elect a new captain, as the present captain was too old for the work. The other members thought that if tie brigade wore satisfied they should not interfere.
A petition from the residents of Shakespaaro street for a lamp was referred to the lighting committee. The following tenders were received for asphalt, gravel sod bouldsrs, Asphalt Boulders. 3s 3 J yd. 4s 3d yd 2s 6d „ 2s lid yd

The lowest tender was accepted. The Town Surveyor reported upon several delapidated and dangerous building in town.
Or, Joyce complained that no notice was taken of their repeated reports. There were a number of delapidated and dangerous buildings that had been condemned and yet no action was taken.
Mr Lord said the case 3 had been in the hands of the Borough solicitor soma time past.
Mr Sheedy moved that immediate action be taken. These delapidated buildings were a menace t j the whole town. Resolution carried.
