THE BLACKBALL RAILWAY.
The Company’s Terms Accepted. Bridge and Line to be proceeded with.
(our own correspondent)
Wellington, This Day,
The Cabinet last night came to a decision regarding the Blaokball-Ngahere Railway. This morning Mr Guinness was informed by the Premier that terms offered by Mr Wright on behalf of the Blackball Coal Coy were virtually accepted, subject to rates for hauling of coal over the proposed two and a half miles of Railway, via three pence per ton. This is about what is usually charged by Government over a similar distance.
Sir Joseph Ward and Hon Hall-Jones are to enquird into this matter and make final arrangements with the Coy for the haulage rates, and also tr settle the terms of the guarantee bond. Directly these arrangements are completed, the necessary preleminaries for calling tenders will be proceeded with immediately. One of the conditions offered by the Company is to send all its coal output over the proposed bridge and railway, and guarantee to pay threepence per ton on 121,000 tons of coal per annum for seven years, which is equal to £ISOO ptr annum.
