PRESENTATION TO THE REV H. W. HOWELL.

A very pleasing ceremony (says the Pelorous Guardian) was performed at Mahakipawa on Tuesday evening last, when the Rev. H. W. Howell was the recipient of a token of good-will and regard from the residents of the Linkwater dibtrict. The ceremony, which was made the occasion of a large gathering of residents, was performed by Mr F. Coomb«, who, referred to the esteem in which the rev. gentleman is held by all classes of the community, irrespective of denomination, and which was endorsed by the large number number of residents who were present. Mr Coombe felicitated Mr Howell on his recent marriage, and, on behalf of tho Linkwater settlers, welcomed him on his return from his recent holiday, and expressed sincere wishes for the future welfare and happiness of Mr and Mrs Howell. Mr Howell, in acknowledging the presentation, thanked' them most warmly for tho handsome present handed to him by Mr Coombe, and expressed the great pleasure ho had always felt in visiting Mahakipawa, where the most sympathetic encouragement had been extended towards him in his ministrations and where the hearty good-will and feeling of the residents had made his work lightsome and pleasant. At the close of the formal proceedings, Mr Howell received many individual congratulations from those present, tho pleasure felt at his return being prominently displayed by the heartiness of expression aocomd'anying his welcome.
