A VEGETARIAN CENTENARIAN.
Captain Diamond, a centenarian, in an address to a class of students in San Francisco, gave the following astonishing autobiographical records, according to the "Vegetarian." "I differ somewhat with you in my religous belief. lam a sun worshipper, From the sun all things derive life. Were it not for the sun there would be no existence of either vegetation or animal life. As to the rest of my belief, I expect you are all cannibals from my point of view. I subsist entirely upon vegetable matter, and have for many years. I have tried to conform to the law of life, and that my efforts have not been all a failure you can see. lam not an old man. I am straight. I can kneel on one knee and arise quickly (suiting the action to the word). I think nothing of walking 10 or 12 miles for a morning appetizer, and Vet by the computation of time by the la'est approved calender they would call me 105 years old ; was born 1796, May 1. My greatest ambition is to walk from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic, a liitle matter of 3,371 miles. If I retain my present health and activity I shall accomplish this ambition " Captain Diamond is now in his one hundred and fifth year, completing a book on healthgiving laws.
There are imitations of Eucalypti Extract in the market, products of simple distillation, forming crude, resinous oils. In order that these crude oils may not be taken for our pursolatile Eucalypti Extract, which is recognise by the Medical Division of the Prussian Goernment to be of perfectly pure origin, as per nformation forwarded to us through the Consul at Melbourne, March 2, 1878, we vtate: —
It is proved by tests made by the Medical Clinics of the Universities of Bonn arid Griefswald (Prussia), and reported toby Dr Schultz Professor of Pharmacology at Bonn, and Professor Dr Mossier, Director of the Medical Clincs at Griefswald, that only products that are saturated with oxygen and freed of acids resinous and other substances adherent to primary distillation, will develop the sanative qualities proper to the plant. All crude oils or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are to be classed according to the named authoriti is, among the turpentines, which are abandoced long since as an internal medicament. TL €se crude oil, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are discernible:
1. By their deficiency in pungent odor lwhich our product, the only genuine Euoa ypti Extract, develops most freely througn ts surplus oxygen.) 2. By their alcoholic, thin, and mobile ap pcarance, being reduced to specifio density through the presence of acids. 3. By their taste, the result of contract ing tendency of resins and tanats. If these crude oils, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are applied by mistake in cases of croup, bronchitis, dipthcria, internal inflammation, dysentry, etc., the consequences are most appalling. For safety's sake ask always or Sander and Sons' Eucalypti Extract.— Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia.—SANDEß & SONS.
