The Bubonic Plague. Sydney, This Day. The Board of Health diagnosis the boy’s case as one of true plague, and active steps are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease. The Federal Tariff. The Sunday Times asks if New Zealand and Fiji are compelled by the high tariff to discontinue sending cargoes to Australia, what about the revenue that is looked for from that source. Train Collision. Adelaide, Nov 16. Two trains collided near Petersburg, and the engines and a number of trucks were telescoped. Firemen Brodie and Eager were killed, and drivers Haines and Pennington injured. The Commissioner of Works and a number of other passengers in carriages attached to one of the trains, were unhurt. General Hector M'Donald. SrDNBY, NOV 16. Hector M'Donald, interviewed, spoke highly of the hospitable treatment he received from the New Zealand people. They could not do enough to make him remember his trip with satisfaction and thankfulness. He was much impressed with what he saw in New Zealand. It afforded personal evidence of the loyal feeling which bound the Empire together. Australian and New Zealand soldiers had the making of great soldiers. By additional concerted training they would make the finest soldiers the Empire could produce. The Storm Damage. The damage by the storm in the wheat crops in Eiverina district is ruinous. The force of the wind in Berrigan may be judged by the fact that a thousand gallon tank was lifted bodily and carried a mile.
Melbourne, Nov 16.
The storm did immense damage, especially to country property and crops. At Castlemaine district it is estimated that the damage is £50,000. A relief fund has been started for people rendered homeless.
The wheat crops in the same districts is practically ruined.
