At a meeting of the Wanganui Rifle Club to-night it was decided to wind up the Club owing to the lack of interest and the poor encouragement extended to rifle clubs by the Government. The Hanawatn Show. Palmerston North, November 15. Glorious weather prevailed on the People’s Day of the Manawatu Show and lowest estimate places the attendance at 16,000 to 17,000. The takings at the gates for the two days was |£99l. £550 was taken to-day, and the total takings at the gates and stands for the three days was £1,150. The Hunters’ competition was won by The Sinner, last year's winner. The points in prize horses was won by E. Stevenson of Palmerston, Gammon and Co. (Palmerston), second. Obituary. Wellington, Nov 15. A death occurred to-day at Carterton of Lady Tancred, widow of the late Sir Thomas Tancred. The deceased lady was 83 years of age. Invercargill, Nov. 15. The death is announced of Archibald MEellar, the well known chief of the Highland Society. Supreme Court. Justice Edwards sentenced Leonard Nation to two and a half years’ imprisonment with hard labor for bicycle stealing. Good Gun Shooting. Wellington, Nov 15, Petone nava’s in work at 64 pounders at the annual camp, competing with other artillery corps for first-class prize and badge, have done some excellent shooting. One detachment attained a figure of merit of 1.013 (16 hits), ard the other made 18 k hita with 18 rounds, with figure of merit 1.175 This constitutes a record for the colony. Tho first prize last year was won withthe figure of merit 0.85. Tho second detachment firing 6in hydro-pneumatic guns scored fifteen hits, the figure merit of 1 023. Notes from Westport.
