Rating on Unimproved Values. Wellington, November 14. A poll of the ratepayers was taken today on the proposal to apply rating on
a unimproved values to the city properties. There was 6,700 voters on the roll, 2,852 of whom voted, 1,264 for the proposal and 591 against. The system will come into operation March. Pilfering of Cargoes. By the San Francisco mail the secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce received a letter from the , London Chamber of Commerce stating ■ that an active investigation is being ■ made regarding the pilfering of cargoes i at the London docks. The Home Chamber is anxious to receive from the merchants of New Zealand paaticulars of any robberies of goods, and printed forms are being sent out upon wbicb information descriptive of the stolen goods maybe sent back to London for the assistance of the detective force there. Birthday Greetings. The Secretary of State of the Colonies has cabled to Lord llanfurly expressing the King’s thanks for the birthday greetings from New Zealand.
