The suggestion thrown out of holding sports at Xmas time has been taken up right heartily. Indeed, the enthusiasm displayed at the large and repisentative gathering held in the Town Hall last night augurs well for a successful meeting. Even the most hopeful among the moving spirits soarceiy anticipated such results. Resolved that the sports meeting be carried out on the race course on Boxing Day. Mr B. Rouse was appointed chairman, and a general committee of all present formed. Out of this the following were appointed an executive Messrs R. Rouse, P. Tansey, T. V. Byme, T. Ford, G. Burger, J. Murdoch, W. B. Gilbert, H. Hope, C. Eevnden. The following officers were appointed :—Chairman R. Rouse, secretary, W. B, Gilbert. Canvassers were appointed to ascertain what financial support would be forthcoming. A very liberal programme was drawn up consisting of fifteen events prizes totalling .£6O. Special attention has been paid to two chopping and a sawing competition to which liberal prizes have been allotted.

I regret to bare to report that Mrs Beid of Main Street, burst a blood vessel internally a few days back, and is in a critical state. Her friends will wish her a speedy recovery.
