PRESBYTERIAN CONVERSAZIONE.
The annual gathering in connection with the Presbyterian Church took place at the Opera House last night, there being a very large assemblage present. The ball, as on former occasions, was tastefully decorated. The Bov. Mr Stewart, who occupied the chair, commented upon the sympathetic bond that evidently existed between the different religious bodies, as was evidenced by the attendance of so many that evening who wore not of the Presbyterian flock. The musical programme, which was a lengthy and excellent one, was opened with an over-
ture by the newly-formed orchestra, and then followed solos by Mrs M’Queen, Mrs Absolum, Misses Webber, Holder, Pike and Chapman, all excellently rendered and heartily encored. Among the male solos those of Messrs Stark, Mitchell, Spindler, Guthrie Moss ard Fraser. The evening was one of interest, scc'al communion, and pleasure, and accomplished what these gatherings were first arranged for—a bringing together -of the people, making them better acquainted with each other, and thereby securing a kindly feeling and heartier co-operation in Church and social work. The gathering was brought to a close about eleven o’clock by a verse of the National Anthem. All the arrangements were of a very complete character, and reflected credit upon the management.
