A Fatal Fire. Bbisbane, November 12.
By a fire at Emerald three hotels and a store were destroyed, the damage being £20,000, Bennett, a man lodging at a hotel was burned to death.
Marine Enquiry
Sydney, November 12.
The Marine Court found that the Cloncurry-Boveric collision was due to the default of the master of the Cloncurry, who shows cause on Friday. Control of New Guinea. Melboeene, November 12.
In the House of Representatives Mr Barton moved resolutions in favor of the Commonwealth assuming control of New Guinea, the annual vote not to exceed £20,000, subject to review at the end of five years dating from July, 1901.
It state! _ that the Imperial Government based its refusal of financial assistance on the ground that New Guinea was taken over at the unanimous request of Australia as an Australian possession and was essentially marked for Australia alone. The debate was adjourned.
