HARRIS SLUICING COMPANY.

The prospectus of the above property situate midway between Greenstone and Kumara has been issued. The property consists of "a special claim of 60 acres in Paddy’s Gully near the junction of the Greenstone and Blackwater Creeks, together with water rights, dam sites etc. Mr Aitken of Kumara who knows the locality well, speaks very highly of the ground, which has teen well prospected with excellent results. It is intended to construct a race from the Hohonu River to carry fifty heads; twenty will be required by the Company, and the remaining thirty heads will bo available for sale to miners, who have already taken up largo areas in expectation of being supplied with water. The quantity of water in the Hohonu River is estimated at seventy to eighty heads. As an illustration of the profits likely to accrue from disposing of the water, it may be mentioned that on the Kumara field, which is located about three miles distant from this property, the Government have constructed a much longer race than the one now suggested at a coat of £45,000. Notwithstanding this heavy outlay, the amount received by way of interest has exceeded £IOO,OOO, and a great demand still exists for the water. The area where operations would commence has been proved to yield gold to the value of one shilling per yard for a depth of sixty feet. The wash is so free and easily shifted, and the run for tailings so short, that to say one head of water will put through six loads an hour would not be exceeding the mark. With twenty head of water the amount put through wou’d be one hundred and twenty loads an hour, but allowing the wash to only average sixpence per yard, the returns per week would reach 108ozs, value £482. The working expenses would be £4O or ten o2s of gold. This leaves a clear profit of £392 per week. The venture is one of the best on the West Coast.
