THE ADELAIDE SENSATION.

Fuller particulars of the outrage committed at Norwood, near Adjlaido, in whish a young man named Dudley, librarian, was bouod, gagged, tortured, and robbed by two desperate crimiaal, are supplied by recent Australian papers. It seems that Dudley, heariDg unusual noises proceeded to ascertain the cause, was confronted by two men. One of them rushed at him with a rope, and he was quickly bound hand and foot, and gagged with a handkerchief. The men then secured the cash-box, which only contained a small sum. Dudley who is about to get married withdrew £lO5 from the savings bank in order to furnish his house. It is thought that the robbers must have had knowledge of the withdrawal oE this money, for they asked, "Where is the gold?" Dudley for some tirns refused the information, but they deliberately set to work to extort the secret from him. One of the men heated a doorkey over the gaslight, and probed Dudley's arm 3, neck, and other parts of his body. The sufferer endured the pain until in sheer distress he was compelled to give the information and the desperadoes quickly secured the £lO5. To add to tha torture to which Dudley had been subjected they seized him and slung him over the bannister rail suspended by tbe arms, and then decamped, Dudley managed to remove the gag, and although and almost unconscious, was able to attract the attention of residents.
